About Me

My name is Diana, I'm a knitwear designer and writer of the blog "Diana Blumczynski Knits". Writing and Knitting have been my two big passions since I was really young, and while I always figured I'd be a novelist who knits in her down time, it seems I can't stop knitting long enough for that to happen.

My Story

I learned to knit when I was about four years old. My Mom was always trying to find creative ways to keep us busy and entertained so after we outgrew plastic canvas and construction paper, she taught us to crochet, and later, to knit. Knitting really stuck with me and over the next few years I made many little dolls and other small projects. As I got older I kind of forgot about knitting and got into writing and photography.

It wasn't until after I got married that I was finally reunited with Knitting. After my husband and I got married we were dedicated to saving as much as possible so that we could buy a house more quickly and stop renting. Because of our aggressive savings plan we challenged ourselves not to spend money frivolously. Unable to sustain my then-hobby of shopping, I decided to go through my many boxes of craft supplies that I had to help pass time, as well as to create more storage space. I took some cream coloured and green yarn and made a striped seed stitch cowl and was totally shocked at just how much I loved knitting. Since I made that cowl three years ago I have always had at least one project on the needles, and I'm loving every minute of it.

Once I got totally back into knitting I would spend hours on Ravelry searching through the patterns. I would start to think up exactly what I was hoping to find in a pattern and even make some sketches and then search through the patterns to find what I was looking for. Eventually it occurred to me to take some of those sketches and try to make up my some patterns of my own. Since then I've made patterns for things to make for myself or my husband but I recently decided to start making patterns that will actually be available for the general public and I'm pretty excited to be designing my first collection of patterns.
